Asma Hussain-Hämäläinen, LL.M. studied law at the University of Heidelberg (Germany) from 1992–1997 and got a Master of Laws degree from the University of Georgia, USA in 1998. During this time she did a legal traineeship at the international law firm Smith, Gambrell and Russell, LLP in Atlanta, USA. She did her legal traineeship at the district court of Kassel (Germany) and the appellate court (Oberlandesgericht) of Frankfurt am Main. During this time she worked as a trainee in the litigation department of the international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Frankfurt am Main. She was admitted to legal practice in Germany in 2003 and is an Specialist Employment Solicitor. During her studies at the University of Heidelberg she got a scholarship by the Germany National Scholarship Foundation. For her Master of Laws studies in the USA she got a Fulbright Scholarship.
Ms. Hussain-Hämäläinen was also in-house counsel for more than ten years. She worked for multinational companies like Degussa AG / Evonik Industries AG (seven years), EnBW AG and Eaton Industries. She started as Senior Legal Counsel and eventually became Chief Compliance Officer / Director Global Ethics and Compliance in multinational companies.
Ms. Hussain-Hämäläinen is a German citizen of Asian origin. German, English and Urdu are her mother tongues. In addition, she has very good command of French and Spanish as well as Finnish (Ms. Hussain is married to a Finn).
